Robert Klepper

Mr. Klepper has an impressive background with 37 years of global experience as an executive leader in the insurance industry. As Chief Underwriting Officer at ICAT, he is responsible for underwriting governance, thought leadership, business policies, training, and the execution of underwriting strategies and technical processes.

Bob previously served as Strategic Advisor for Betterview (Nearmap), an Insurtech company based in San Francisco, California.  Before joining Betterview in early 2022, he served as Global Chief Underwriting Officer for Property, Energy and Construction at AXA XL, a division of AXA. In this role, Bob was responsible for developing AXA XL’s core underwriting strategies and optimizing product profitability for short tail insurance lines globally. Prior to joining AXA XL in June 2019, he served as both Global Chief Underwriting Officer and President of Client Risk Solutions at AIG for 7 years. Bob also held the position of President and Chief Underwriting Officer of Torus Insurance (UK) Ltd. in London from 2008 to 2012.  During his previous tenure with XL Capital, he spent more than a decade, serving in various roles, including Chief Underwriting Officer for XL’s Property, Energy, Construction Fine Art and Specie insurance lines and Head of Risk Engineering.  Bob’s career also includes several international executive postings including Bermuda, UK and Asia-Pacific.

Bob began his career as a loss prevention consultant in1987 with Industrial Risk Insurers. He is a 1986 graduate of Clemson University with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. In his free time, Bob enjoys trekking, skiing and adventure travel.
