A self-service inspection is an easy, time-efficient way to complete your homeowners insurance inspection on your own using your mobile device.  Below is a comprehensive guide on what to expect during your self-inspection process.

What are the benefits of a Self-Service Inspection?

Self-service inspections are designed to save you time. You can complete the inspection on your own time without a scheduled appointment with an inspector.

To complete your self-service inspection, you will need:

  • A mobile device with internet access
  • The ability to take and upload photos
  • eSurvey Platform Access: ICAT uses eSurvey, a web-based platform that does not require any app downloads. You will receive a web link via email/text to access the platform.

Self-Service Inspection Process

Step 1: Access the eSurvey Platform

Once you receive your weblink, click on it to start the inspection process. The platform will guide you through each step. 

Step 2: Answer Preliminary Questions

You will begin by answering a series of questions about your property. These questions may include:

  • The date your HVAC system was last updated
  • Type of electrical wiring in the house
  • The presence of smoke detectors near each bedroom
  • Whether you have a pool, fence, or solar panels
  • If there are any dogs or other animals on the property

The platform will provide helpful tips and examples, such as wiring diagrams, to assist you in answering these questions accurately.

Step 3: Upload Property Photos

After completing the questionnaire, you will need to upload photos of your property. The platform will guide you through the photo submission process, which includes the following requirements:

Exterior Photos:

All sides of the house: Capture the front, left, right, and rear of your home.

Roof Photos:

Take photos from the ground, ensuring you do not climb onto the roof. Aim to capture the roof from a distance to the best of your ability.

Plumbing Photos:

Photograph all sinks and the plumbing underneath each sink.

Mechanical Systems: Provide photos of the following

  • Furnace or heat pump
  • Water heaters
  • Electrical panel and panel labels
  • Electrical meter hookup
  • Additional Features:
  • If applicable, include photos of:
  • Pools and spas
  • All outbuildings (sheds, garages, etc.)
  • Fireplaces, fireplace inserts, wood or pellet stoves
  • Fire alarms
  • Burglar alarms
  • Sprinkler systems
  • Protective water devices
  • Solar panels
  • Any additional wind mitigation items

Animal Photos:

If you have dogs, livestock, or other animals, please also include photos of them.
